| Head Varsity Baseball Coach: Mike Woods |
The
only head coach the program has ever known, Mike Woods enters his
12th season at the helm of the Hamilton High School baseball
program.
In his first 11 years, Woods has led the Huskies
on an unprecedented run. The Huskies have one Fiesta Region regular
season title to their credit, five appearances in the Fiesta Region
tournament, four Fiesta Region tournament titles, four state championship
tournament berths and back-to-back state titles.
Woods, 39, has composed a 128-75 (.631) career
record with Huskies, 45-27 (.625) in Fiesta Region play.
The Rockford, Ill., native has tutored 15 players
who have gone on to play collegiately, professionally or both.
Prior to Hamilton, Woods coached baseball in
Chandler schools since 1986, getting his start at Chandler Junior
High School in 1986 and 1987. He followed with an 11-year coaching
stint at Andersen Junior High School (1988-1998). In addition,
he also coached football at Anderson from 1991-98.
Woods played collegiately at Rock Valley College
in Rockford, where he played catcher for the Golden Eagles in
1984-1985.
Woods received his bachelor’s degree in
Secondary Education from Arizona State University in 1987 and
earned his masters in American History/Secondary Education from
ASU in 1992.
Woods is married to the former Ellen Jantsch and the couple have two
children Chelsea, 12 and Connor, 10. |
