Assistant Junior Varsity Baseball Coach: Mike Johnston

Mike Johnston has been a member of the baseball program since the school opened in 1998.  He was an assistant freshmen coach in 1999 helping the team reach a 16-2 record.  He took over as the head freshmen coach in 2000 and led the team to an 17-2 record.  Following the 2000 season, he moved up to become an assistant coach with the junior varsity team for two seasons.  After taking a few years off of baseball to coach track and field at Hamilton, Coach Johnston came back in 2009 as an assistant JV coach helping the team finish the year with a 18-1 record.

Coach Johnston was born in Burlingame, California in 1972.  He attended South San Francisco High School from 1987-1991.  Mike was a member of the varsity baseball and football teams since his sophomore year, leading the baseball team to three consecutive league championships.  He was voted as an all-state player in both baseball and football in 1991.  He was the only player in California in 1991 to play in the NoCal/SoCal All Star football and baseball games.  Following his senior season, Mike received an athletic football scholarship to continue his career from Brigham Young University.  Not only did he play football (wide receiver) for the Cougars, he was the starting shortstop on the baseball field as well.  Mike has also been a football coach at Hamilton since 1998, winning five state championships as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator.
